We have a Jersey dairy cow.  She is certified through the American Jersey Cattle Association (reg. no. USA 174935281).  Her name is “Poppy,” named after the simple and beautiful bright orange flower.  She was born July 16, 2022.

The Jersey is a British breed of small dairy cattle from Jersey, in the British Channel Islands.  Jersey cows are a smaller breed. Thus, our cow is not skinny, and she has a normal build and a healthy weight.  Beef cows, on the other hand, are generally huskier (because they are raised for meat).  You may be able to compare her shape and size to some beef steers that visit our ranch from time to time.  Dairy cows spend less energy putting on meat, and more time producing milk.  They are easy to breed, and they produce high butterfat as compared to other breeds.  She eats grass from our field as well as locally grown alfalfa.

Since Blackacre Ranch is all about producing the most nutritious and highest quality food, our dairy cow produces only 100% A2-A2 milk.
